HELP!!!

Calling all bloggers, readers, writers, reviewers, and book lovers, we need your help.

As many of you know we have a 9-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter.  Well, thanks to their wonderful grandma, they both have Kindles.  The problem we are facing is this, our daughter, Abbi is in 2nd grade, but reading at a 5th grade reading level.  She has out grown all of her chapter books and is now tearing through anything she can get her hands on.

We need book recommendations - and fast!  So please get the word out there to all that have read, written, and loved middle grade books, we need some possible downloads.  Traditional or self-published is fine, we are just trying to find books that are written at a level that will keep her attention, but are age appropriate.

If you know anyone, send them our way, if you know a book, please post it in the comment field.

  1. I ran into the same problem with my son. He was an advanced reader in grade school (seriously, he tested at a 12th grade level in third grade) and wasn't challenged at all by the curriculum assigned. Yet I wasn't about to let him read YA books. But there are a lot of great advanced MG books out there and even some tamer adult stuff.

I can hardly think of any off the top of my head anymore, but I know my son really liked Hatchet by Gary Paulson, and City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. His favorite books ever are The Giver by Lois Lowry and Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. They might be a little advanced...but maybe not. :)

  2. Ooh, just remembered Ender's Game has a few cuss words in it, so you may want to wait on that one. :P

  3. If I remember correctly, the Septimus Heap books were good. When my son was that age, he loved the Redwall books. Also the Chronicles of Narnia. If your daughter likes historical fiction, maybe the Little Maid series (I remember The Little Maid of Old Connecticut was very good.)

    Hope that helps.

  6. Thanks guys. I remember reading a few of those books too. We are really glad that she loves reading the way that she does, it just makes it difficult.
